Press Release - Bryson Unveils Illegal Immigration Policy

(NASHVILLE, TN) - Senator Jim Bryson (R-Franklin) today unveiled his illegal immigration plan in the Senate chamber where three anti-illegal immigration bills passed without receiving the support of the Governor. Sen. Bryson's plan calls for requiring coordination between the state and federal government when illegal immigrants commit crime, punishing and deporting illegal immigrants who have committed crimes, and requiring verification of the immigration status of those applying for public benefits.

"Tennessee must have the strictest immigration laws in the nation," Sen. Bryson said. "We need a governor who is not content to pass the buck to federal government and who realizes that something can be done at the state level."

In the Senate, Sen. Bryson voted to require state law enforcement to work with federal authorities when illegal immigrants commit crime, make it a class E felony to knowingly employ illegal immigrants and require driver's license tests to be administered in English.

"It is time to stop avoiding the issue of illegal immigration and time to make Tennessee a place illegal immigrants avoid," said Sen. Bryson. "As Governor, I will take action at the state level to protect Tennesseans from the harmful effects of illegal immigration."
